The Albany

In an area with a large student population, the Albany has remained a true local pub with a mixed clientele and a friendly welcome from the licensees Jeff and Cheryl, the assistant manager Richard and their team. Built in 1895, it started life as a coaching inn, but the stables have now been knocked down and this area has been converted into a secluded beer garden.

The City Arms is a Brains Brewery-owned pub located in the heart of Cardiff, opposite the Millennium Stadium. After closing earlier in 2010, the pub has now been completely refurbished with rugby memorabilia adorning the interior walls and the pub now aims to be a premier venue for beer lovers. After reopening on November 5th, 2010 it now offers more than 35 different beers and ciders.

 

The Discovery

The “Discovery” is situated in Celyn Avenue, a short distance north of Roath Park Lake. It is named after Captain Scott’s ship which set sail from Cardiff on his epic journey to the Antarctic in 1900. The “Terra Nova” lounge (Scott’s second ship from 1910) has an interesting display of pictures from these voyages.

 

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

The Gwaelod Y Garth is a stone built pub in the village of Gwaelod – Y – Garth, located within the boundary of the City and County of Cardiff. The pub and village name is derived from the Welsh for “Foothills of the Garth” as that is exactly its location. It is a popular meeting place, the hub of the local community and for ramblers and cyclists, even the occasional hand gliding enthusiast, it is a popular starting and finishing point.

Spectacular views across the valley are offered from the windows and from the beer garden.
