In an area with a large student population, the Albany has remained a true local pub with a mixed clientele and a friendly welcome from the licensees Jeff and Cheryl, the assistant manager Richard and their team. Built in 1895, it started life as a coaching inn, but the stables have now been knocked down and this area has been converted into a secluded beer garden.

There are two bars, a lively bar and a quieter lounge. Both bars have large- screen plasma TVs showing sport, but the sound is turned off in the lounge except for big matches! You can also play Wii games on the screen in the bar. As a Brains pub, it sells the full range of Brains beers, but also sells two guest beers, which change weekly. Food is also served at lunchtimes. Regular events during the week include a Tuesday night quiz, a twice-weekly poker league and live music on Saturday night.

It is also a focus of community activity and is home to two football teams and a number of skittles teams who play on their skittle alley.

The pubs is located off Albany Road and is a 20-minute walk from the city centre
