Assembly members from across Wales have come together to support the pub and brewery industry across the country by forming the Cross Party Beer and Pub Group.

The group's remit is to champion the "wholesomeness and enjoyment of beer and the unique role of the pub in Welsh society; to increase understanding of the social, cultural and historic role of brewing and pubs in Wales". Group chairman Jeff Cuthbert AM used his opening address to remark on the difficult times faced by pubs and breweries in Wales.

He also said that he supports the genuine community pub as an essential community resource offering a valuable social outlet to its customers as well as providing a safe and responsible environment to enjoy Welsh drink.

Also present at the opening was Association of Welsh Independent Brewers chairman Buster Grant. He spoke of the challenges facing Welsh brewing but also celebrated the ever expanding Welsh brewing industry which is in many ways stronger than it has ever been.
